We’re extremely excited to announce the launch of our Upper Key Stage Two Curriculum-linked outreach roadshow; “The Lights of Plymouth Sound”.

This roadshow will take students on a fascinating journey of discovery that brings the National Curriculum to life as we explore our citywide connection to the Ocean.

The roadshow includes:

  • A ‘Lights of Plymouth Sound’ workshop for one class: This 90-minute Upper Key Stage Two workshop combines practical science experimentation with maritime lore; decoding the language, learning the meaning, and exploring the history of the buoys that light up the waters of Plymouth Sound at night. Along the way students will discover a fascinating part of Plymouth’s hidden history, and put the National Curriculum principles of electricity and circuitry to the test, before going beyond the curriculum to explore the role of renewable energy in our daily lives and future.
  • A personalised, interactive CPD session: This exclusive bespoke training session will be delivered after the workshop, once the children have left for the day. Our team will spend an hour with your Key Stage Two teachers, support staff and anyone who would like to join, for a personalised CPD session. This session will help cement the knowledge and skills required to run the Lights of Plymouth Sound Workshop and provide space to discuss how and why blue education can be incorporated into the existing curriculum.
  • Resources: A full suite of reuseable workshop resources and teaching materials to support reproduction of the workshop within your school.

Example itinerary:

13:30 – 15:00: Lights of Plymouth Sound workshop

16:00 – 17:00: Bringing the Ocean into the Classroom CPD session.
