Since 2022, we have been collaborating with Plymouth City Council to develop Plymouth Sound National Marine Park’s flagship education programme, Sea in Our School!
Sea in Our School follows a similar format to the highly successful pilot project ‘Generation Ocean.’ The project focuses on building connections to Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, whilst supporting curriculum development in the classroom at no cost to the participating schools.
Sea in Our School kicks off in September 2024 and spans 4 academic years. 30 schools are enrolled in the first year of the programme in one of two different cohorts:
- ‘Cohort A’ participants have access to the programme for all four years as part of a long-term engagement study.
- ‘Cohort B’ participants are offered a 1 year place on the programme, starting in September of the selected academic year.
This year, we are working with Year 3 classes only. Following this, the programme will open up to other KS2 classes from September 2025.
Participating schools have access to an online event platform that includes fully funded learning experiences, including interactive online lessons, school visit packages, and field trip options linked to Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Over the course of the programme, these activities will be provided by a range of organisations from across the Marine Park, including the four main National Marine Park hubs. Each class can select three activities (one of each type) to complete within their year of participation.
We are thrilled to announce that all 30 schools for Year 1 (2024/25) have now signed up and will begin their Sea in Our School activities in September 2024.
