At the Ocean Conservation Trust we LOVE World Ocean Day. At the very least it’s a chance for us to take a step back and just appreciate how amazing the Ocean really is. But, not only that, it’s a chance for our charity to get involved in lots of amazing different projects & events, and gives us a chance to celebrate our Ocean conservation work!

What are we up to…

World Ocean Day for Schools

As one of the founding members of the inspirational We Are Ocean collective, we’re proud to be involved in another fantastic World Ocean Day for Schools.

This year we’re one of four Ocean conservation charities who have a whole day of programming designed for school classes around the world.

Alongside our friends in Common Seas, Marine Stewardship Council and Marine Conservation Society, we’ll be delivering loads of exciting activities, mindfulness sessions and exciting Ocean lessons.

The festival will be over four days and our day is on World Ocean Day itself!

So find out more and register your class, school or group here:

Miles for Meadows – Fundraising for seagrass

We’re very proud that four of amazing Ocean Advocates will be walking miles along the South West coast path to raise money for our vital seagrass work.

The fantastically named ‘Miles for Meadows’ are well on their way to hitting their target goal ahead of the start of their walk. All money raised will support our charity’s efforts in restoring vital Ocean meadows.

Find out more about their efforts and donate to them here.

Plymouth Beach Clean

In case you missed our latest campaign, we’ve launched our ‘Leave Nothing But Footprints’ campaign with the fantastic Ben Fogle and our latest Partners Plymouth Gin.

We’re asking people to visit the coast this summer, but be mindful about the impact they’ll have, and to leave nothing but footprints.

To practise what we preach we’ll be cleaning Mount Batten beach on World Ocean Day with Plymouth Gin, a few other businesses and all data from the rubbish we collect will go towards to the Preventing Plastic Pollution research project that we’re proud to be an external expert on!

Meet us 11am on Mount Batten Beach on World Ocean Day!

Some exciting announcements…

Seagrass film

Our charity is proud to be a part of the EU LIFE funded ReMEDIES project. ReMEDIES and our friends in Project Seagrass have jointly produced a film all about Cornish Seagrass, to inspire, education and connect people to the fantastic plant that is seagrass.

Keep an eye on all of our social media pages on World Ocean Day to view the short documentary, and find out more about the ReMEDIES project here.

Exciting Ocean Literacy news…
