We are currently supporting projects that focus on hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos, manta rays and whale sharks in Mozambique and community action in Ghana.
The Galapagos Conservation Trust, The Galapagos Islands
‘Science, Drones and Outreach’ is an innovative project taking place in the Galapagos Marine Reserve, using drone technology to survey Hammerhead Shark nursery grounds so that we can better understand their breeding patterns.
The footage is also being used to engage local communities and schools, helping them to better understand the need to protect these areas and the vitally important habitats within them.
The Marine Megafauna Foundation, Mozambique
The Marine Megafauna is using innovative 360-degree technology to produce authentic VR films in Mozambique that are designed to engage and connect local communities with the Ocean.
The aim of this project is to help stakeholders to better understand the value of the marine ecosystems within biodiverse locations such as the Bazaruto Archipelao and develop empathy for marine life and the challenges they face. By using authentic storylines, capturing beautiful footage of reefs, sharks, rays and whales and making the underwater world accessible to all, it hopes to develop an increased appreciation of the human impact on our Ocean, and the need to better protect and care for it.
Seafront Environmental, Ghana
In Ghana, we’re pleased to be funding a similar project that is using modern VR technology to connect school children, university students and other stake-holder groups with the Ocean. The project intends to use virtual reality technologies as a tool to tell compelling stories about the human activities currently impacting upon the quality of the marine environment and its associated ecosystems and creating the need for improved management.
Short films depicting local Ghanaian coastal and marine management issues, filmed using 360 degrees technology, together with films obtained from other areas that depict good management practices will be shown, to make a compelling case for locals to engage in and support good environmental practices.
