We’re pleased to have been awarded funding by the European Maritime Fisheries fund to reactivate the country’s first experimental scallop hatchery, the aim being to breed and settle juvenile scallops in order to support a sustainable scallop fishery in the South West of England.
Scallops are one of the most valuable seafoods available to us here in the UK. The nation realises that, moving forward, there has to be more reliance on aquaculture to provide a sustainable source of seafood.
In the long term, the knowledge and experience gained by our team of Ocean experts working on this project could potentially lead to the breeding of other species such Native Oyster (Ostrea edulis), which as been affected by an influx on non-native Pacific Oysters (Magallana gigas).
