The Ocean Conservation Trust is a charity with a mission of ‘Connecting us with our Ocean’.
We are committed to conserving the marine environment and promoting pro-Ocean behaviour in others to do the same. The Ocean Advocacy & Engagement department at the Ocean Conservation Trust is looking to recruit a member of staff to join our Schools team.
The Role
37.5 hours per week/Term Time only applications (annualised hours) also considered
Salary is £21,935 Standard Schools officer salary or £18,208.46 annualised hours
As a Schools Officer your role will focus on the development and delivery of activities that link environmental and conservation messaging with formal curriculums, from Early years through to university.
You will be based at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth, where you will support the visits of over 25,000 students per year and contribute to our growing digital engagement strategy, bringing the experience alive for many more students around the world. The role will also include opportunities to visit schools and attend events, both regionally and nationally, as an ambassador of our charity and advocate of the Ocean, through our outreach programme.
An understanding of the role the Ocean and its inhabitants play in supporting life on earth, as well as a passion for helping others to recognise the intrinsic value of the Ocean through experiential connection is essential.
As a people focused conservation charity, we are looking for a confident, motivated individual capable of demonstrating innovative approaches to engagement, capturing the imagination of a wide range of audiences and inspiring Pro-Ocean behaviour in students of all ages.

ESSENTIAL
- Experience working/volunteering in environmental sector
- Experience running activities with young people
- Experience delivering informal education
DESIRABLE
- Experience delivering the National Curriculum of England
- Degree in environmental science
- Teaching qualifications
- Valid driving license

Closing Date: 5th December 2022.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth. Interviews will be held on the 15th & 16th of December and require approximately 3 hours to complete.
Interviews will involve a short practical assessment, an opportunity to meet the team, and a standard interview panel. The full person spec below will be used to inform candidate selection. Further details will be provided upon successful shortlisting.
We are seeking to appoint suitable candidates to start on or before the end of January 2023. Later start dates may be considered for the right candidates.
